Kilcullen Clarifies

Dave Kilcullen is one of the top commanders in Iraq. He's written a short piece describing current operations. It rings so much truer than the punditry we are almost forced to endure (but then we turn the TV off). I hope he's right -- it sounds like he knows what he's doing.

Ross:

Agreed - It sounds like he knows precisely what he's doing, both operationally (to the extent that's knowable from his short piece) and attitudinally:

"Once again, none of this is intended to tell you “what to think” or “whether it’s working”. We’re all professional adults, and you can work that out for yourself. But this does, I hope, explain some of the thinking behind what we are doing, and it may therefore make it easier for people to come to their own judgment."

That's the phrasing of someone who's easily credible, I think, and I'm guessing you thought the same.

Thanks for the pointer to a piece I might not otherwise have seen.

Aren't you the trendspotter? This article was mentioned on NPR this weekend. I think the program was Soundprint.

Very good article. Thanks also for pointing it out.
