So, there was this football game last Saturday
A classic, best game of the year, if you ask me. My Ohio State Buckeyes pulled out a three-point victory, winning 42-39.
Yawn. Everybody who gives a crap already knows that. No news there.
Here's the follow-up, guaranteed to keep the rubes all atwitter at least until the next Pick-4 Ohio Lottery drawing:
Go figure. Donald Sensing would likely be displeased.
[wik] Oh, and back to the game - How good a game was it? Michigan's still rated #2 in the AP poll, and is just barely #3 in the BCS. Just as they should be.
[alsø wik] Dang. I completely misread the grotesquely detailed, yet ultimately quite understandable ESPN rankings. Michigan IS still #2 in the BCS, as well as the AP, but the droids at Harris & USAToday have them #3. The only way to avoid a replay of OSU-Michigan, it seems, is for USC to win out against Notre Dame & UCLA. If they do, great, and if they don't, well OSU will have to beat Michigan again. Which they will.

ExACTly - it was a great game, but it never even occurred to me that the Bucks were in danger of losing it.
Michigan's the best team they played all year, and clearly the #2 team in the country, but was never going to win this game.
And you've hit on my one NCAA football nerve - the need for a jumbo sized shot of STFU for the SEC. OSU could beat the best SEC team with its second squad.
If the Buckeyes don't cough
If the Buckeyes don't cough up two unforced turnovers, Michigan doesn't get within two touchdowns.
My choice for the Tostitos Sacrifice: Florida. After the Bucks stomp a mudhole in the Gators and walk it dry, we can finally pour a big hearty glass of STFU to all the whiners who go on about the brutal, bruuuutal SEC.
Plus Florida still reeks of Steve Superior, so I've always got time to watch them get smoked like a Cuban cigar.
Two comments I saw on the
Two comments I saw on the game:
I tend, as you do, B, toward the latter, no disrespect to the Wolverines, whom I actually believe to be the second best team in the country.
Someone was saying on the
Someone was saying on the radio over the weekend that the BCS scores for UM and OSU were in the 900s, and the next closest teams were in the 600s. (that was before the game ended.) I think that there's little doubt that Michigan is the second best, but still, they had their shot.
And, I want to see the bucks win a championship by forty points. That will make me as happy as some very happy thing.
See the link for ESPN (now
See the link for ESPN (now added to my post) for the actual BCS rankings, which I initially misread. OSU is ranked 1.000, UofM is .9263, and USC is .9188.
Everyone else is, at least apparently, out of the running.
Do to a sudden and
Do to a sudden and unavoidable need to drive for hours in the country looking for a house, I was unable to watch that game. I was, however, able to listen to it on the radio, and damn but that was a great game. Extra bonus goodness in that my team pulled it out for the big win.
However, I would like to level imprecations, curses, and a fervent hope for an imminent demise on the deranged mongoloid fuckwits at SportsTalk 980 who cut away five minutes from the end of the best game of the season to broadcast the beginning of a fucking Wizards game.
"We'll keep you updated" is not fucking good enough.
Sheesh. At least my Dad will bring over his tape of the game.
I think that all those who think that OSU should have to play the wolverines again for the championship are on crack. They had their chance, and (just barely) blew it. I think that the Bucks should have the chance to beat up on some sad sack also ran for the championship.
