"Undocumented Workers" to sue Wal-Mart
So some of the illegal immigrants who were busted last week working for a contracter who cleans Wal-Marts are suing Wal-Mart for discrimination.
Let's review. Illegal immigrants who were caught working illegally are suing a company that did not employ them charging that said company discriminated against them and therefore violated the civil rights, that they, illegal immigrants, allegedly have in this case.
Can they even do that? Or is Attorney Gilbert Garcia merely cackling over a very small pile of sweaty ones and fives?
My head hurts from banging it against my desk repeatedly.

These are human beings, entitled to live here because Americans are ultimately responsible for their being poor and desperate.

Seriously, though, the immigration process is a total knucklef--k. I wouldn't wish it on anybody, and heartily embrace any effort to improve the process. But there IS a process.
I had to do it myself, because I can't afford an immigration lawyer. It took years, several legislative wrong turns, a run-in with the IRS (to whom, get this, a "resident alien" means something ENTIRELY different from what INS means by that same term. And don't ever think that there is even a phone connection between the two organizations), and at least $700 I didn't have. Oh, and money orders only, if you please.
But you have to go through it if you want to do it right. Knowing what I do now about the immigration system, I needn't have bothered.

I am all for streamlining and rationalizing the immigration process. Both for legal immigrants, to get them in; and for illegal immigrants, to get them out.
