Um... excuse me... is this thing on?
Whatever else you might think about the whole Valerie Plame thing that bored me to tears even before I was through hearing about it the first time, and that was what?... six months ago, that story has recently turned hi-larious.
Turns out Rove did it.
For all the screeching some folks do about Rove did this and Rove did that and Rove snacks on the entrails of blind orphan babies it has become difficult to remember that Carl Rove is... a slimy heartless douchebag of a human being.
Obsidian Wings has an absolute howler of a transcript from today's White House press gaggle. Go read their account; all I could do here is repeat what they wrote. The gist is this: the press, who remember like the rest of us how the President vowed that whoever leaked the Plame info would be hung by the neck until dead! dead! dead! (in a career sense, of course). Now that it's Rove, Scott McClellan in best Ari Fleischer mode has a lot to say about how it's not appropriate to comment on an ongoing investigation and evidence has to be weighed and whatnot... we need to make sure that justice is served yadda yadda but we can't comment at this time about this ongoing investigation, the names of the innocent etc., etc., while all the while he's been talking in great and excruciating detail for months about this newly secret ongoing investigation.
Feh.
I'm sure justice will be served, and I'm sure OJ will find the real killers any day now.

Quote:it has become difficult
I hate to pick nits with you, but I'm sure he has a heart, because, well, he just has to - take my word for it. On the other matters, you're entitled to your opinion but a combination of your not having originally been exercised about this matter along with the sneaky and tangential non sequitur makes your blurb a reasonable take on matters.
And, poor Scott McClellan - who knew he could crabwalk so gracelessly? I'm almost to the point of thinking as poorly of him as I do his mother, the woman of the throw-away last names and our current Texas Comptroller.
I hope you've gone back to not giving a care for the time being, however, because I don't think this will end up as cut-and-dried as Obsydian Wings and others, including yourself, suppose.
For myself, I think it is now and always has been a chickenshit waste of time, in that no crime was committed and nobody's position compromised in any way. And yes, they should let Ms. Miller out of the hoosegow immediately.
But, like you, I think it's starting to get interesting, which can happen when, even in a chickenshit game, the ball's kept bouncing for too long. And if K-K-Karl ends up taking it in the neck as a result, well, that'll just be tough titties for him.
But I think I'll wait for the final cards to get turned, so as to enjoy the rest of the game.
"Yes, your honor, it's all
"Yes, your honor, it's all true. This man has no dick."
P, I'm with you 98%, and have definitely gone back to not giving much of a crap either way. I'm currently reading Evelyn Waugh, and his mode of high British bitchery elides amazingly well with the tap-dancing of the Texas Brigade. And just like an Evelyn Waugh novel, by next week (next year if you like), everyone will have forgotten the particulars of the affair, leaving just a faint and illegible stain of obloquy on the reputation of Karl Rove and possibly George Bush, both of whom will be invited to slightly fewer parties as a consequence.
I'm also positive, as you are, that this will not end in any cut-and-dried fashion. Bush & Co. are very fond of cut-and-dried, but somehow events never seem to quite work out with the desired sterility.
