Refreshingly straightforward

A Missouri man has been charged with selling his vote. He put his presidential vote up for sale on eBay, with a minimum bid of $25. When the men in black showed up at his door, he offered the excuse, "Hey, I didn't know it was illegal!" This guy will go far. If someone purchases his vote, it will pay for five minutes of his defense lawyer's time.

I think we've missed out on a great opportunity here.... a chance to find out, definitively and objectively thanks to the proverbial "market forces," exactly what our votes are worth.

In fact, we should do more of this. Is my vote worth less in Massachusetts since no matter what I do John Kerry will win in a walk? Are my folks' votes out there in O-hia worth more because it's a tight race for big EC mojo? And how about on local referenda? What's my dad's vote worth to the anti-anti-gay-marriage crowd who are getting pummled by the forces of reactionary moralism right now in the Buckeye State?

(seriously... Ohio's gay marriage amendement is a corker... the state's Republican governer and his guys are agin">http://www.lancastereaglegazette.com/news/stories/20041014/localnews/14…' it on the grounds">http://www.wtol.com/Global/story.asp?S=2425732]grounds it is insanely vague about who it's denying what benefits."

Inquiring minds wanna know!!

Text of the proposed amendment:

"Only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this state and its political subdivisions. This state and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance or effect of marriage.")
