Giving Haji the Big One

You don't step on Superman's cape.

You don't spit into the wind.

You don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger.

And you don't pop unaimed mortar rounds on howitzer batteries.

Stars and Stripes discusses life for a Paladin gun crew in Ramadi here. Great primer for how the crews operate, how seriously they take their counterbattery role, and their relief that they can quit operating as the Queen of Battle and get back to being the Kings. Good stuff.

Nice. Can Katyusha Rockets be accurately backtracked on radar? I was wondering if some of the Isreali artillery we see on the news are counter-battery missions.

2

B,
Yeah, my understanding is that the IDF's counterbattery capability is...robust.

The problem of course is when the bad guys shoot them off some poor slob's roof and front porch; once the big bullets come back in answer, voila- another example of Israeli aggression against civilians.

Yep.

The brutal math is that the Israelis and we have to care more about our kids than we do about theirs.

Sooner or later, the poor slobs will do what they can to kick Hezbollah out. Sounds as if something similar is happening in Iraq. When they see some shithead firing a mortar in the backyard, they know a big kiss from the USA is on the way back. So, if you don’t want your house blasted to bits, you chase off or kill the shitheads before they get that mortar working.
