Sometimes I love the conventions of the news profession. That sentence had to be there, but it seems so... wrong.

Part of why it sounds wrong is because it wasn't terribly well written. A few minor edits improve the flow a bit:

Apparent Stowaway Didn't Make It All The Way

It rained body parts in Long Island, NY, Tuesday, as the corpse of an apparent stowaway aboard a South African Airways flight from Dakar to JFK was partially dismembered when the crew lowered the plane's landing gear.

Flight 203, an Airbus A340-600, landed at JFK on time at 0700 local. It was taxiing from Runway 22R when airport workers noticed part of a body hanging from the wheel well.

The Airbus was over Floral Park when it lowered its landing gear, allowing parts of the body to fall from the plane. Although some of the body parts crashed through the roof of a home in Floral Park, there were no apparent injuries on the ground.

The FAA is investigating. There's no word yet on the identity of the corpse.

I'm never again going to complain about how those bastards treat my golf clubs.

Glad to see someone is taking some action on illegal immegration. I know it was a little harsh, but sometimes you just have to make an example.
