Lest we forget that Islam is the religion of peace

I (Ross) am editing this entry slightly, because the image it contains is very disturbing. Look beneath the fold for the image, but be warned.

AP reports that Sunni residents of Fallujah mutilated the corpse of an American citizen killed in an attack yesterday.

Later, they hung the bodies from a bridge over the Euphrates.

Residents cheered after the grisly assault on two four-wheel-drive civilian vehicles, which left both in flames. Others chanted, "We sacrifice our blood and souls for Islam."

Yes, you do.

Especially the latter.

Tacitus' phrase "they made a desert and called it peace" applies to Islam as it does to other societies. What counts is that there is order--internal order--and that compulsion toward an orderly society is mistakenly called peace.

Thanks Ross.

NDR: too true. Order is not peace, or otherwise Germany ca. 1937 would have been very different.

Brdgt: No apology needed.

I'll buy the "we're a religion of peace" line the minute the Islamic world at large condemns: acts like this; acts like 9/11 and 3/11; the use of suicide bombers; and the use of children as suicide bombers, if a blanket condemnation is somehow just too much to bear.

What's that I hear? Mostly silence?

May I add that it's awfully suspect that the AP happened to be there at the right moment to record all of this.

Doesn't anyone else find it curious that the AP was at the ambush site, considering that to be an ambush in the first place the ambushers had to have advanced knowledge of the target's location, destination, or movements?

I mean we don't live in a Marvel Comics universe; we can deduce that if Peter Parker isn't Spider Man, he seems awfully lucky getting the pics he does.

I accuse the AP of collusion in this event, not only because of obvious foreknowledge, but because the savages would not have been nearly so energetic without photographers.
