It's All About the Oil

Commonsense and Wonder links to the mounting evidence of France's corrupt and nefarious involvement in the Iraq's oil industry.

the French interest in maintaining Saddam Hussein in power was spelled out in excruciating detail. The price tag: close to $100 billion. That was what French oil companies stood to profit in the first seven years of their exclusive oil arrangements - had Saddam remained in power.

Read the whole thing, as they say.

**yawn** This has been mentioned before as the reason why they didn't want to go to war. It's the same reason the Russians weren't behind it either. I suppose the companies involved are Yukos and Elf-Aquitane, yes?

Ah yes.. I just finished reading the article in its entirety. Interesting. So is this going to be your most underreported story of the last 2 years?

If it's so damned interesting, why was it underreported? I find it really interesting as well, but the mentions of it in the press were pretty much as a footnote to France's maneuverings on the Security Council. (pardon my spelling. I hate spelling words that are French in origin...I have a tendency to toss in extra silent vowels. This time, I spellchecked it on purpose!)

My candidate for most unreported story would likely be the Democracy movement in Iran. France's monomaniacal pursuit of callow self interest is a given, which may be why this story never got legs.
