Cold war weeper flick of the century
Minister Buckethead offered below a link to the 50 most unappreciated films of recent years. At the risk of giving everything away, I want to throw my endorsement behind their well considered and totally deserving number-one choice, The Iron Giant.
The ending makes me cry every single time I see it, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty and counting. Just a perfect, perfect film, and one of my all-time top five favorites. I like it better than The Godfather sometimes.

Agreed. That this wonderful
Agreed. That this wonderful movie has gotten the short shrift on DVD is truly a crime. There's allegedly a special edition set in the works, but it's been delayed again and again and again.
To see that Iron Giant director Brad Bird is helming the next Pixar flick, The Incredibles . . . oh, man. With that combo, Pixar's batting average will remain a steady 1.000.
I agree with you 100%.
I agree with you 100%. Excellent movie.
I hadn't gotten around to
I hadn't gotten around to looking for it on DVD, as I have the VHS version and hadn't worked up the necessary daring do and contempt for sound financial thinking required to buy a movie I already own. Great movie, though. If you haven't seen the Zero Effect, see it instantly. Approximate Quote:
"The secret to tailing someone is to arrive everywhere first. No one will ever suspect you're following them if you are always ahead of them."
Fantastic movie about the greatest detective who ever lived.
Buckethead: absolutely!!!
Buckethead: absolutely!!! Zero Effect is a very fine film, and features the second-best use of Nick Cave music in all of cinema, right behind "Wings of Desire."
I will await an Iron Giant special edition with bated breath. I don't yet own it on DVD, which is a shame, but if there's something better down the line, who cares!
