I'm serious here
You know who should totally run for President?
Oprah freaking Winfrey.
Think about it.

No! I already avoid books
No! I already avoid books with her name on them.
Including "Anna Karenina?"
Including "Anna Karenina?" "As I Lay Dying?" "The Known World?" "The Good Earth?"
You don't know how much I
You don't know how much I wanted to read __East of Eden__ ...
OK - I thought about it, this
OK - I thought about it, this way, in a discussion with myself:
Q1: What do Oprah Winfrey and Mongo the Retard have in common?
A1: Only one thing I can think of - neither's even remotely suited to be president.
Q2: So, you're saying that someone completely unsuited to the job cannot and should not run?
A2: You've got me there - at least 15 of our past presidents could accurately be so described.
Conclusion? Sure - "Why the hell not?" and "How hard could it be?" spring immediately to mind.
Patton, exactly.
Patton, exactly.
Not to be glib, but an Oprah candidacy could be a good opportunity in a number of ways. First, as one of the most respected people in the country, she could open up a very productive dialogue on race, class, and gender in American politics. No kidding. Second, she's extremely intelligent, inquisitive, and thoughtful, which is more than I can say for some recent Presidents I could name. Third, if she did somehow get nominated and win, given the right advisors, I think she could do a bang-up job. Do you seriously think an Oprah presidency could turn out worse for the country than, say, a Biden, McCain, Vilsack, Gore, Frist, or Rice presidency, not to mention Clinton?
Not to set the standard absurdly low, but I'm not convinced that Oprah is less capable of Chief Executive than any of those people named.
Again, I'm not saying she necessarily needs to win, but an Oprah candidacy could- and again I'm serious here- be very fruitful.
Besides, she's got way more going for her politically than, I'm gonna raise you and say 20, of our past POUTUSes.
