Aiming is an essential part of hitting your target
Via Rand Simberg, we find the Battle for Monrovia, or The Definitive Guide to Gangsta Hip-Hop Urban Combat. A true classic, and one that illustrates why many third world military forces are so... ineffective.

Ineffective is such as strong
Ineffective is such as strong word. I prefer peashooter proficiency challenged. From the looks of those "caught in action" photos, I believe the rebels of Monrovia have a much larger issue on their hands other than automatic machine gun etiquette and it's called fashion. Honestly, who full knowingly goes into battle dressed like that? Every civilized nation instructs proper battle-ready attire, and I'm fairly sure that neon blue "MC Hammer" style parachute pants and open toe leather sandals are not standard issue. If it wasn't for the outdated Nike shoes shown in some of those pictures, I might have very well thought those photos were shot right in the heart of East Los Angeles. I feel comfort in the simple fact that at least our street gang rebels in the good 'ole USA understand the latest trends in foot fashion. But that's just my two cents.

That's really...sad.

Using fixed sights are fairly intuitive. I don't understand why someone would choose not to use his wepaon effectively. The shenanigans these guys are up to look less like serious urban warfare than ritual combat. That's largely why the Army Special Forces even exist, to teach people like this how to shoot their own weapons.
It's pretty bad that, judging by those pics, a posse of part-time cops from Mooseknuckle, Vermont could take apart Liberia's armed factions in like an afternoon.
But not entirely unexpected. I spent some time with a fella who had participated in several operations in Africa for an unnamed federal agency. In his interactions with indigenous bullies he found it common practice to set the rear sight on AKs or SKSs at it's farthest distance, because they didn't know what the adjustable sight was for; they figured the higher the number, the more powerful the bullet. They also thought that a white man with a rifle was the most scary, dangerous, and evil thing on Earth- the boogeyman, Satan, and Ares all rolled into one. Which is not so far off the mark, really.
