You Wouldn't Hit a Guy With Glasses, Would You, Kufr?
Today the army had to blow up a mosque that a few dozen Iraqi thugs were holed up in. That's sort of been a big taboo so far that said thugs have been able to exploit, so I suppose this was bound to happen sooner or later. Wonder what's going to happen next, cuz this could bounce either way.

I don't even think that the
I don't even think that the Israelis are stupid enought to do that.
It's well within bounds of
It's well within bounds of accepted rules of warfare. It's unfortunate that the Arab world is entirely ignorant of it, and will (indeed, is) spinning it as more evidence of American efforts to destroy Islam.
The way the world now works, only the US can do wrong, depsite fighitng IAW with long standing traditional rules of engagement. Check up on your Laws of Land Warfare and see for yourself.
Now it's perfectly alright for fucking Arab fucking savages to blow up Jewish noncombatants at will, or Americans wherever they're to be found, but if the USMC engages combatants using a holy site as a storngpoint, we're wrong.
Fuck 'em all.
Since before the start of the
Since before the start of the second Iraq war, our enemies have counted on us being nice, sensitive, and caring in how we go about making war. That's why they pushed women and children in front of them when they went to fight us.
So a bunch of vermin hide in a mosque, and fire RPGs at Marines from within the mosque compound. So we hit it with a 500pd. bomb.
But notice in the story that the actual mosque building was carefully not destroyed. Even when we push the boundaries a little, we're still nice.
GL and B, I'm with you, as I
GL and B, I'm with you, as I'm not sure my post made clear. I wrote that the army "had" to blow up the mosque, and I did so because it's clear that doing so was the only way to kill the people shooting at them for hours on end from inside.
And they did leave the building standing-- impressive!
But I do think this an unfortunate turn. Every little move we make runs the risk of souring more regular Joes (or regular Hamids) against our mission and presence. Does that mean we should do nothing? Clearly not. We broke the eggs, we're making the omelet. Can't stop now. But I just hope that a) the military's measured and professionally lethal response in Fallujah, which seems to be coming off as cowardice to the people there, pays dividends when all the scumbags are dead and the rest of the town are mostly unhurt, and b) we don't have to blow up many more mosques. It might be militarily necessary but it doesn't look so good.
I'm telling you guys, "Hama
I'm telling you guys, "Hama Rules". This seals it. Anyone with a blue passport and white skin is going to bite it in Islamic nations. Yes, I know I'm exaggerating, but this is true old school/Old Testament "Eye for an eye" now.
If you don't know what Hama Rules are, read Thomas L. Friedman, From Beirut to Jerusalem.
ugh. How angry would we be if a house of worship was blown up here in the States?
