Absence
I am off to the mountains of Pennsylvania (the western side of the state, not the hoity-toity New-Yorkified eastern half with your liberty bells and your unaccented English) for a week; I trust my cobloggers will carry on in my absence. Carry on like a bunch of howler monkeys, that is! Oh, ho ho ho!
If the world happens to end in that time, well, hey. I'd love to say it's been great knowin' ya.

Hey, who you callin
Hey, who you callin unaccented? Seriously, I'm often told I have a Philly accent, whatever that is. Have fun in the mountains, I love heading up there (even during the summer)...
A Philly accent? To my ears
A Philly accent? To my ears it's like a North Jersey accent but less harsh. In any case, the entire Mid-Atlantic coastal region is converging on one dialect anyway. Except Newark. Newark sucks.
Johno,
Johno,
This is a typical conversation in Philly:
A: didjaeet?
B: naaah didjoo?
Translation:
A: Did you eat?
B: No. Did you?
They also do a variation of 'youse', and use the plural for the singular. Some of them say 'yuman' instead of 'human.' We go to the 'shore' and eat 'steaks' that are served with cheese, bread, and pepperoncini. To have it with onions, you need the code words 'wid, or widout.' [N.B. where I use the third person is stuff that I do not say. I use the first for stuff I do say.]
We mumble our words. We elongate our 'O's', but not like the funny way Canadians do. We drink Levi's Champ Cherry Cola, Franks Black Cherry Wishniak soda, and soft pretzels.
Hoity-toity New Yorkified eastern part? Exactly where is that? The Chinatown part? The ritzy part near Rittenhouse Square? Maybe I don't go to NYC enough, but few parts of my hometown remind me of New York.
folks
folks
does anyone have an address for Franks Soda
I would like to buy a case of black cherry wishniak and can't locate them
According to this website,
According to this website, [url=http://www.elliottsamazing.com/honickman.html,]http://www.elliottsamazi…] the company was bought by Harold Honickman and is probably out of business as a barnd (BOO!!! HISS!!!). The current contact info for Honickman is from a South Jersey newspaper. It lists Honickman's son as CEO.
Good luck trying to get Frank's. I lmiss Tahitian Treat, the toxic waste colored Lime soda. They were the first place I ever saw pineapple flavored soda too.
My dad still sells soda in Philly. I'll ask if he thinks he can get some. I'll email you if he can get it. Where are you stationed right now?
