Or Would We?

Here's a gem from Randall Robinson, link via marcland, who was kind enough to link us the other day, and has a good post on the Iran situation. (Follow the link to see the story.)

Yeah, the best reason to vote for Bush is that the rest of the world hates him, and who cares about those dumb fucking foreigners anyway, right? Whatever they want can't possibly be good for Christian Fundamentalist America's Faith-Based Economy.

Yes, there has never been a point in history where there's been more divergence between the goals of foreign nations, and goals of the US. Completly opposite!

Except for maybe that terrorism thing, and that economy thing, and the environmental problem, and an increasingly globalized economy.

But fuck all that. Fuck the foreigners! No self-respecting pickup truck owner is gonna listen to some goddamn terrorist towel-head or faggy foreign idiot.

The fact that foreign leaders want Kerry elected is not, by itself, reason to vote for Bush. But the differences between America and the rest of the world are both more and less than you state.

There is no significant difference between the civilized nations on matters of economics and globalization. Whatever the rhetoric, all of them support a basic program of free trade and increasing globalization.

And on the environment, is America better or worse because we don't adopt Kyoto, instead of signing the treaty for propaganda purposes, knowing that you will never have to abide by its provisions?

But the point here is, what foriegn leaders want Kerry in the oval office, and why would they want him there? They do not have our best interests at stake, they have their own nations to worry about. So for an American candidate to boast of this is, as I quoted earlier, painfully naive.

This poster does not represent rural isolationism as you so condescendingly imply. Nor does it have anything to do with Christianity. The poster does not represent contempt for foreigners, but a recognition that foriegn leaders might, just might, have reasons for supporting Kerry that do not necessarily have anything to do with the welfare of this nation - which a president Kerry would be sworn to uphold.
