What's wrong with this?

I found this cool link over at Rocket Jones. This guy must somehow have even more free time than me, because he's collected sports logos. Most of them

Some people seem to have it in for Chief Wahoo. But I ask you, what's wrong with this?

wahoo

The Indians replaced wahoo with this Stultifyingly dull script "I." Sure, I bought the new model hat, but I hate seeing traditions trampled into the ground in the pursuit of political correctness.

Predictibly, I just disagree with you completely. (although I *might* detect a hint of sarcasm in your "what is wrong with this?" but with you, sometimes I can't tell.)

Chief Wahoo is exactly the same-- exactly-- as putting a black face in profile with thick lips, buggy white eyes, and a giant afro on a hat and calling the team the "[Negro] Jims." Tradition or not, that's just not cool.

Now, if we could do something about the Redskins' name...

The Indians were actually named after a specific Indian who played for the team when it was called the spiders, so there's not much of an issue there. Chief Wahoo was very bad in the incarnation I displayed above, and the one they replaced it with was almost as bad.

Nevertheless, the script "I" is pathetic. The old block "C" they used in '48 was cool, and it was the hat they wore the last time they won the world series. They should resurrect that design.

Agreed on the logographic scripts. "I" is weak.

The fact that the team is named after a real Native American player from the Cleveland Spiders era just makes things worse. Not ONLY do the Spiders lay claim to the worst season in the history of professional baseball-- in 1899 the team went a stunning 20-134 (yes, that's twenty wins and one hundred thirty four losses) and spent the last half of the season on the road-- but, c'mon Buckethead. Do we really want to go back to the days where every Indian was automatically "Chief" and every deaf-mute was called "Dummy"?
